About The Citizen
The Citizen is the only bi-weekly newspaper mailed free of charge to every home in Hugo, Centerville and eastern Lino Lakes. It made its debut in 2004 as Your Neighborhood News & Report. Your Neighborhood News merged with the Hugonian newspaper in 2006, and was renamed The Citizen by our readers in a naming contest.
We currently have a circulation of about 10,000, 8,000 of which are mailed into homes. The remaining newspapers are distributed free of charge at over 75 businesses, government buildings and schools located throughout the three cities.
The Citizen takes pride in being the creator of the “How Far Will You Go To Read The Citizen” (“World Citizen”) photograph series, which has been running in our newspaper since 2005 with the avid participation of our loyal readers. We have journeyed to virtually every country on the planet and have the photos to prove it.
