Centerville Tidbits
At its meeting of Feb. 11, the Centerville City Council:
• Approved a request from Mainstreet Liquor Barrel to modify the address of its operation from 1873 Main Street to 1875 Main Street on its off-sale liquor license, which was considered and approved at the council’s Jan. 14 meeting.
• Approved a message therapist certification/license for Ms. Jamie Lanske at Serenity Now Healing, 7043 20th Ave. S.
• Approved the request of Centennial Little League for use of the city’s ballfields at Laurie LaMotte Memorial Park for the 2009 season consistent with the Parks & Recreation Commission’s recommendation to do so. Council members discussed the prioritization of grading the infields; City Administrator Dallas Larson stated that although “other city work takes precedence,” the Public Works Department would do what it could to keep up with the grading.
• Opted not to waive the monetary limits on municipal liability established by statute, consistent with the recommendation of City Attorney Kurt Glaser.
• Decided against purchasing an umbrella insurance policy.
• After considerable discussion, decided not to opt for no-fault sewer backup coverage, offered by the city’s insurance carrier, LMCIT. “It might be a nice thing to have,” Glaser said, adding, “In the long run, you’ll have higher premiums.”
• Rejected all bids on the 2009 Street Improvement Project and directed staff to rebid the project (see story Page 8).
• Elected to attend mandatory training for the Local Board of Appeal & Equalization on March 25 when it is offered in the metro area. Rescheduled the regular City Council meeting on that date to Tuesday, March 31.
• Set a council workshop for March 4 at 6 p.m. to discuss the 2009 budget. Discussion of the Beard Group and the downtown redevelopment project will commence at 7 p.m.
