PW Building Officially On The Move

At its July 11 meeting, the Centerville City Council officially approved the purchase of the old Centerville Redi-Mix site as the city's new Public Works Department base.

The city will pay $1.4 million for the property, with $800,000 of the initial funds coming from the general fund, $400,000 coming from the sewer fund, and another $200,000 coming from the water fund.

The city is also planning to receive approximately $400,000 for the sale of the current public works property, although no time frame has yet been established for that sale.

City Administrator Dallas Larson said that final construction plans for the new site haven't yet been finalized.

The purchase agreement was approved by a 4-1 vote, with Council Member Jeff Paar opposed. "We've got the downtown redevelopment and road projects that are going to need funds," he said. "I don't feel it's right, right now to spend that type of money."

Old Mill Improvements To Begin

The council approved the final plat and development agreement for the controversial Hanzal subdivision, officially known as Clearwater Creek Estates, set to be constructed along Old Mill ment signed, the city and the developer can shift focus toward completing necessary infrastructure and environmental studies.

According to City Administrator Dallas Larson, funding for the studies will primarily come from the two large grants the city has recently received.

Following the vote on the development agreement, the council approved the commencement of the project's infrastructure study. The infrastructure study will determine what infrastructure improvements are needed and the timing of their construction, and it must be completed before the environmental study can begin. The infrastructure study will be conducted by Bonestroo Engineering for a fee of $23,000. The money to pay for the study will initially come out of the city's general fund, but will ultimately be reimbursed through county grant money.

Broussard Vickers and Council Member Tom Lee voted against approval of the study, for a vote of 3-2.

Once all necessary studies are completed, the Beard Group will return before the council with preliminary plans and specifications for the first phase of the project. After those plans and a funding method for public infrastructure improvements are approved, construction can begin, and, if Statz's projections hold true, Centerville residents will begin to see the fruits of the city's planning efforts shortly after next summer.Road. Both documents are subject to final revision by the city administrator and attorney.

The council then awarded the bid to Precision Excavating & Grading in the amount of $297,494.75 for the Old Mill Road improvements, which will improve public infrastructure in the area of the Hanzal subdivision.

In other action, the council:

. Approved the renewal of the Trio Inn's 2 a.m. option liquor application.
