Option Agreement Approved At its June 13 meeting, the Centerville City Council approved an option agreement with Dennis Shudy, the owner of the Centerville Redi-Mix building.
Council and staff have expressed interest in purchasing the Redi-Mix building and converting it into the city's Public Works Department facility.
The option agreement formalizes the parties' mutual interest in the sale of the building, giving the city time to review a tentative site plan.
"This [option agreement] is so that you don't enter into an agreement where you buy a million dollar-plus facility without having the site planned out," said City Engineer Mark Statz. "As your city engineer, I'm asking that you allow [engineers] to take the time to think about those things before purchasing," he added.
The council agreed to spend $7,500 to have the city's engineers review the site plan drawn up by Shudy's engineer. The review should be completed prior to the June 27 council meeting.
According to City Administrator Dallas Larson, the city would benefit from $30,000 in property tax savings if the sale is finalized before July 1.
