Bonestroo To Address Issues With New Park

At its September 26 meeting, the Centerville City Council approved Veit and Company's third pay request for work completed at Hidden Spring Park after City Engineer Mark Statz said that the issues council has with the park construction weren't the result of unacceptable work by Veit.

"I think Veit has done the job per our specifications," said Statz, who works for Bonestroo, the city's engineering consultant and the company that drew up the park's design.

Council has been reluctant to pay Veit for its work until issues with the park construction were resolved. Specifically, council has expressed concern about the performance of the park's artesian well, the durability of shoreline restoration on the site, and plantings in the rain garden.

While Veit is still responsible for installing plantings in the rain garden, Statz said that Bonestroo will deal with issues relating to the well and shoreline restoration.

The pay request was in the amount of $50,199.04.

City To Offer $2.6 Million In Bonds

Council also approved a resolution authorizing the city to sell $2.6 million worth of bonds.

The bonds will help pay for improvement projects at Fairview Street, CSAH 14, and Old Mill Road.

"We aren't financing anything that we haven't already authorized," said Finance Director John Meyer.

Council Member Linda Broussard Vickers said that while she originally voted against the projects the bonds will help to finance, she would support the bond sale because "from a business standpoint we have no other options."

In other action, the council:

. Approved Precision Excavating and Grading's second pay request in the amount of $27,466.88 for work completed on the Old Mill Road street improvement project.

. Approved Andrew Ross Concrete and Masonry's first pay request for work completed on the 2007 sidewalk reconstruction project, in the amount of $19,922.50.

. Approved the Centerville Lions Club's request to hold their annual haunted house in the building that formerly housed the Waterworks Dance Club.

. Approved a new law enforcement mutual aid agreement with Anoka County and other cities within the county. The updated agreement spells out the conditions under which cities can provide help and receive emergency services from other communities.

. Approved the North Metro Telecommunications Commission's new franchise template, which aims to standardize the paperwork that telecommunications companies have to complete if they want to provide service in the area. The new template is modeled after the agreement that area communities have in place with Comcast.
