2007 Fee Schedule Approved
At its February 28 meeting, the Centerville City Council approved the 2007 fee schedule after a debate that included a discussion of Centerville's parkland dedication fees as compared with those of other metro municipalities.
The discussion centered on the fact that Centerville generally has lower parkland dedication fees than other comparable cities.
Council members and city staff, however, expressed concern about the impact that raising fees could have on commercial development.
Raising parkland dedication fees "might have an impact on folks who are considering building," City Administrator Dallas Larson said. Likewise, Council Member Tom Lee noted that "[Centerville] is trying to encourage commercial development," but expressed concern that increased fees might prohibit development from occurring.
Although the council approved the fee schedule without amendments, the question of whether certain fees should be adjusted could come up again before the year is through. Mayor Mary Capra said that the topic of changing certain fees might be addressed at an upcoming all-committee meeting, but supported the approval of the fee schedule so that "something is on the books for 2007."
Sedona Final Plat Approved
The council also approved the final plat and developers' agreement for the Sedona Homes/Jackson commercial development, subject to final changes by city staff.
Although a hard copy of the agreement was not available at the meeting, City Attorney Kurt Glazer told the council that "[the developers and the city] have addressed all the major issues between us" and asked the council to approve the agreement aft er a verbal section-by-section review of the document.
Part of the agreement stipulates that the sewer and water systems and the general maintenance of the property on privately-owned property will be the responsibility of the developers and not the city. The agreement also stipulates that the developers have two years to finish construction. The property's conditional use permit will be subject to annual review.
In other action, the council:
. Voted 4-0, 1 abstention, to extend the pre-development agreement with the Beard Group for the downtown redevelopment project through June 1. Th e agreement stipulates that rights to any land purchase agreements will revert back to the city if the Beard Group is unable to complete the redevelopment project. Council Member Linda Broussard Vickers abstained from voting.
. Approved an on-sale and Sunday liquor license for Scat Properties, Inc., doing business as WiseGuys Pizza.
. Approved the successful performance review of building inspector Joel McPherson.
