Malmstrom Retires As Mahtomedi Football Coach

After 115 wins, a state championship, three sectional crowns and nine conference titles, Wally Malmstrom still remembers the fi rst play he called as Mahtomedi High School's head football coach.

He'd just spent 3 years in the shadows as an assistant to the legendary George Smith.

Academic Championship Matches Athletic Achievements

Forest Lake Area High School's 006 girl's swim team is not only one of the best around, it's also one of the brainiest.

Between the opening round and the fi nal event, Forest Lake High School senior Amanda Nelson broke her own school record in the 100-yard butterfl y,
earning third place in state at the state swim meet on Nov. 22 at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center. The Rangers fi nished in 17th place in the team
competition.

And the latter, notes Head Coach Rochelle McKenzie, is what will likely be most valuable for the swimmers in the long run.

Results Encouraging For Centennial "Zero Hour" Plan

Centennial High School's new "zero hour" scheduling option, which allows juniors and seniors to take an extra early-morning class each semester, might expand next year after attracting a core of dedicated students and some favorable feedback this fall.

Such were the highlights of a report and student survey on this year's zero-hour scheduling that were outlined for the Centennial School Board December 5.
