Getting Ready For blue Heron Days

Since the days of the Sumerians, when Mesopotamia's bounty was paraded in public and local artists recorded the event on clay urns for posterity, the small-town festival has been a time to celebrate the growing season or the harvest and to bring the members of a community together.

Things haven't changed a whole lot.

Hugo has Good Neighbor Days, Centerville has Fête des Lacs, and Lino Lakes has a fledgling celebration called Blue Heron Days - and it's about to take off.

Last Chance At The Circle-Lex VFW

The Circle-Lex VFW Post 6583 building in Lino Lakes looks brand new - new enough to still be sitting on the shelf. And for all practical purposes, that's a pretty good description of where it sits right now.

Through a series of missteps, the neatly-trimmed building with the empty flagpoles has been sitting empty since February, when a Lino Lakes bank began foreclosure.

"They were just overextended," said VFW District Commander-Elect Lyle Horner, who will oversee 31 VFW posts in the 7th District when he takes office in June. "It's a beautiful hall."

Barring a last-minute miracle, the new Circle-Lex VFW Post 6583 facility
in Lino Lakes will likely fall victim to a mortgage payment.
