Mabel Hauble of Hugo turned the big 1-0-0 on March 4 and celebrated with dozens of family and friends at a birthday bash held on Saturday, March 8 at Comforts of Home in Hugo including nieces Diane Mitchell (left) and Cheryl Moody (right). Mabel received "hundreds of cards" from the community in honor of her special day, Comforts of Home Housing Director Jen Quiram said.

LINO LAKES - A few miles north of Main Street, where Centerville meets Lino Lakes, there was once a natural habitat the likes of which is found in few places on earth. Peltier Island used to be the home of thousands of herons - a place they returned to each spring, where year aft er year they built their nests and waited for their chicks to hatch and grow.

The Great Blue Herons of Lake Peltier in Lino Lakes and Centerville traditionally return around St. Patrick’s
Day. They will be welcomed back this year by many who are anxious to see the magnificent birds successfully
re-establish their rookery on Peltier Island.

Illustrator Of Harry Potter Books Offers Encouragement

WHITE BEAR LAKE - Mary GrandPré, the Minnesota-raised illustrator of the world-famous Harry Potter books, told a Century College audience recently that she worked as a waitress for 13 years and didn't fully support herself as an illustrator until age 30.

"You have to have faith in yourself," GrandPré told the 250 people who attended the annual Young Women's Conference at Century on Saturday, March 8. "Along the way you will receive a lot of feedback, and a lot of rejections."
