Enthusiastic Crowd Bundles Up And Reels 'Em In

CENTERVILLE - I'm not sure who said, "fishing is fun, it's the catching that is a challenge."

If fishing is fun, there was a lot of it Feb. 9 on Centerville Lake for the 26th annual Centerville and Lino Lakes Lions Clubs Ice Fishing Contest.

Despite the wind whipping up and sending whirligigs of snow across the frozen surface, organizers said the hearty crowd of some 600 'stuck it out' with rosy cheeks and chilly noses to try and tempt fish out of some 1,200 drilled holes.

"I got one!" echoed more than once across the popular recreational lake off Anoka County 14 after the 11 a.m. start. And as the 2 p.m. registration period approached, anglers in line were hopeful that their last-minute catches made it on the prize board.
