Chain Of Lakes' YMCA To Embark On Final Fundraising Drive

Funds Will Support Programming

The Board of Directors of the Chain of Lakes YMCA is about to embark on an ambitious project to raise $300,000 in funds over the final six months before the building's scheduled opening in August.

Oneka PTA's Gold Plate Dinner A Night To Treasure

Fundraiser Nets $3,000-Plus For Playground

Let us make one thing clear: The nd Annual Oneka Elementary Gold Plate dinner on February did not involve eating from gold plates. Rather, the dinner was served on white china and the gold (paper) plates were reserved for a fund-raising game.

And that was the purpose of the dinner - to have fun with games while raising money to fund additional playground equipment at Oneka.

The Hugo American Legion Banquet Hall was a beehive of activity prior to the delicious sit-down dinner catered by Vincenzo Catering Plus of Centerville. Tickets were snapped up for raffles on the "$100 hat" (a chapeau covered with money), bottles of adult beverages, and miscellaneous prizes such as gift baskets. Bingo cards and Mardi Gras necklaces were also on sale in preparation for additional games.

And more cuts may have to be made, according to Blaesing, if the state legislature and federal government don't give K-1 schools "adequate" additional funding.

During the budget reduction process, district residents were able to share their views on where the cuts should be made.
