Historic Roots Of Beloved Christmas Traditions

Christmas is upon us and holiday lights, nativity displays, mistletoe, and colorful ornaments are gracing Washington County homes and properties.

One of the most popular shared tradition involves the Christmas tree. Even today, many of the trees adorning our living rooms (parlors, for you history fans) were freshly cut, hauled home, and put in a bucket of water to freshen up before taking center stage.

Local Woman Supports Troops—And Afghan villagers

When Marilyn Stomberg moved to Hugo five years ago, she said she discovered a piece of heaven, and wanted to share it with the troops overseas.

She packed up some coffee, Girl Scout cookies and other goodies for her son and his friends, who were serving in the Air Force. But they insisted that she reach out to the troops in the field instead.
