The history of the valentine is an interesting - and lengthy - one.
Valentine's Day is thought to have its roots in ancient Roman and Christian tradition.

It is theorized by some researchers that the Christian church elected to move the feast of St. Valentine to mid-February to supplant the pagan "Lupercalia" fertility festival. In the 5th century, Pope Gelasius deplored this pagan celebration in numerous letters, which apparently survive.

Church Choir Pulls Out The Stops To Entertain
LINO LAKES - "Mi-n-nesota! Where our spirit flies higher than the snow. And behind each weed, you'll find a Swede, and the winter's 42 below!"
So sang the choir of St Joseph's Church at its Java Jive variety show on Feb. 1 and 2.
The Minnesota song, performed to the theme song from the Rodgers & Hammerstein musical "Oklahoma!," was the all-cast highlight of the show, which aimed to raise thousands for the choir fund.
