Lino Lakes Steps Into Spirit Hills Parking Dispute

In a response to complaints by some business owners that the number of parking spaces provided at Spirit Hills is inadequate, the city of Lino Lakes has placed conditions on the issuance of occupancy permits for two empty units within the commercial center.

"Before we issue a Certificate of Occupancy for those remaining spaces," said City Administrator Gordon Heitke, "we are going to request a proof of adequacy for parking." A letter dated May 15, 2007, signed by Community Development Director Michael Grochala, informed Griffin Companies, the property manager, of the city's intentions.

The Real Story On Hugo's Media Sensation

Wally the Steer has gained a bit
of notoriety since the Hugo Good
Neighbor Days Parade last month.

Wally the Steer has been the center of attention lately, and not just because he marched down the street during the 2007 Hugo Good Neighbor Days parade.

In late June his owner, Hugo resident Karyl Hylle, was given a citation for "unnecessary noise," specifically referencing Wally's mooing.

KARE 11 News, CNN and Good Morning America all picked up the story. Twin Cities radio host Joe Soucheray took comments during his daily program, and Wally made the front page of the Pioneer Press.

Centerville Council Receives 2006 Police Report

Some Crimes Down For Third Year

At its June 27 meeting, the Centerville City Council listened to Centennial Lakes Police Chief Robert Makela present the department's 2006 Annual Report, which summarizes police activity within the three cities it covers: Centerville, Lexington and Circle Pines. Makela's presentation gave an overview of the 35-page published report.

According to the report, here is how Class 1 and 2 crimes in the Centennial Lakes region have trended over the past three years:

. Class 1 crimes, which include forcible rape, aggravated assault, burglary and other serious crimes, declined from 259 in 2004 to 239 in 2005, to 217 in 2006.
