St. Paul Resident Drowns In Centerville Lake

CENTERVILLE - In a tragic accident, Alvin Carter, 49, drowned while fishing on Centerville Lake with two companions mid-aft ernoon on Friday, Nov. 2. According to Sgt. Jim Plattner of the Anoka County Sheriff 's Department Patrol Division, the St. Paul resident lost his balance when he leaned over the back of the boat to grab his fishing line, and fell into the cold water.

New County Library Opens Its Doors To Readers

Residents Say It's Bigger And Better Than Ever

FOREST LAKE - As the seven children cut their way through a paper chain at the entrance to the new Hardwood Creek Library, a cheer went up and visitors moved forward into the bright interior of the brand-new facility.

The occasion was the grand opening of the Hardwood Creek Library and the Washington County Service Center, just west of Highway 61 north of Hugo, and residents were eager to get a look inside their new library, which has been under construction for over a year.

Lino Lakes Voters Return Mayor For Fourth Term

LINO LAKES - It was a clear message, sent from the municipal polls last week: by a wide margin, Lino Lakes voters defeated a referendum to reconstruct a number of aging streets within the city's borders.

Seven out of 10 voters opposed spending public dollars to fund 48.5% of the cost of the city's proposed 2009 Street Reconstruction project. The $5,583,000 project would have brought municipal utilities and street improvements to West Shadow Lake Drive, Shadow Court and Sandpiper Drive.
