Front Yard Meeting Sees Large Turnout

WHITE BEAR LAKE - The White Bear Lake School Board announced last week that Dr. Michael Lovett has accepted the offer to become the next superintendent for the White Bear Lake Area School District. Contract negotiations are underway.

Lovett, one of two finalists for the post that Ted Blaesing is leaving after 15 years, is currently assistant superintendent of the Minnetonka School District. He was also a finalist in the BurnsvilleEagan-Savage School District's superintendent search earlier this month.

The other White Bear finalist, Dr. Nancy Rajanen, is assistant superintendent in the Robbinsdale school district.

Over 100 citizens attended the board's discussion at the District Education Center on Wednesday, April 2. The vote to extend the offer to Lovett was unanimous.

"We had two great candidates to choose from," said Board Chair Gregg Larson. "In the end, we felt that Dr. Lovett is the right fit for our community and to lead the next stage of our district's journey. We are very pleased he has accepted our offer."

Lovett has worked in Minnetonka since 1988. Previous administrative experience includes four and one-half years as director of personnel and planning for Intermediate School District 917; five years as director of education statistics at the Minnesota Department of Education; three years as a junior high school assistant principal in Forest Lake; and one year as an administrative intern at Hopkins West Junior High School.

He began his career in education teaching social studies in New York.

In addition to his current position in Minnetonka, Lovett also serves as an adjunct instructor at the University of Minnesota in the Department of Educational Administration and Policy and is a contributing writer to The MASTER Teacher, a publication for superintendents and administrators.

Lovett holds a B.A. in history from Carleton College, and an M.A. and Ph.D. in educational administration from the University of Minnesota.
