Shooting Banned On Bald Eagle Lake
Council, Residents Cite Public Safety Concerns
HUGO - In what is shaping up to be a controversial move, the Hugo City Council banned the shooting of firearms on Bald Eagle Lake during its meeting on Sept. 7.
“It’s a public safety issue, and the time to ban shooting came some time ago,” said Council Member Becky Petryk.

Local Families Speak Up About Autism

CENTERVILLE – Following several hours of discussion and negotiations last Wednesday, the Centerville City Council adopted a preliminary tax levy and budget for 2010. By a 3-1 vote, council members adopted a $2,265,661tax levy payable in 2010, the maximum allowed by law.
However, the council declined to saddle city taxpayers with $109,658 in Market Value Homestead Credit (MVHC) dollars that the state legislature withheld from the city in 2008 and 2009, even though the legislature passed a bill earlier this year giving cities the authority to levy a portion of those withheld amounts above and beyond their levy limits.
