Phase 2 Of Planned Street & Utility Work To Affect Many

CENTERVILLE - For a city measuring 2.5 square miles, a public improvement project that aims to upgrade 5.7 miles of its municipal streets is a whopping undertaking.

Centerville's residents were invited to find out more about the project, tentatively planned for 2009, in an informational meeting held October 4 at St. Genevieve's Parish Community Center.

HUGO - Did you pass your last knee reflex test? You know the one - a quick tap on the knee with the little triangular hammer, where your lower leg jumps like it has a mind of its own.

If you did, you are invited to put those flexible knees to work to set a new record for the Guinness Book of World Records.

Health Fair organizers hope to earn the world record for a group playing the "Heads and Shoulders, Knees and Toes" game at the upcoming Hugo Health Fair on Saturday, November 3.

Sheriff's Report Paints Mixed Picture In Hugo

Thefts Up From 2006. Other Crimes Decrease

HUGO - On October 1, the Hugo City Council listened to the Washington County Sheriff's Office annual report, presented by County Sheri Bill Hutton. The report painted a mixed picture about recent crime trends in Hugo.

According to Hutton, Part 1 crimes - which include thefts, burglaries, larceny, and other more serious crimes - are up 30% in Hugo since last year. On the other hand, Part 2 crimes - which include disorderly conduct, low level narcotics, vandalism, DUIs, and others - are down.

Commissioners In Short Supply In Centerville

Mayor Makes Appeal To Residents

CENTERVILLE - At its October 10 meeting, the Centerville City Council accepted the resignation of Darrin Mosher from the Parks and Recreation Commission, but in the same motion approved his appointment to the Planning and Zoning Commission.

Mosher's move is a response to an emergency shortage of Planning and Zoning Commission members partially caused by the resignation of Jennefer Klennert Hunt. Her resignation was also approved by council on October 10.
