"Permanent Rural" Designation Dominates Hearing

HUGO - Hugo residents made the most of their final official opportunity to weigh in on the city's 2008 Comprehensive Plan on March 6, as a record number of people turned out for a final public hearing on the plan, held before the Planning Commission.

A crowd crammed into council chambers to watch and listen as residents expressed their opinions on the draft version of the plan; more residents watched proceedings in the lobby and as many as 80 followed the hearing in the Oneka Room in City Hall.

Washington County Presents Alternatives At Open House

HUGO - Residents from surrounding communities joined those from Hugo at the city's Rice Lake Centre on March 5 to take a look at a smorgasbord of choices for the realignments of Washington County Roads 7, 8 and 9, presented in an open house format by the Washington County Public Works Department (formerly the Department of Transportation and Physical Development) and its consultants. Around 75 people attended.

Centerville Water Bill Plan Investigated

Residents Could Get Charged Even Without Connection

CENTERVILLE - Residents could get a water bill in their mailboxes even if they aren't forced to hook up to city water by the end of 2012.

That was one plan discussed at Centerville's March 12 City Council meeting as an alternative to the existing ordinance enforcing hookup. Residents included in the 2009 street improvement project would be required to hook up within one year of its completion.

The Centerville City Council is
considering whether being located near one of these is worth
something to residents, whether
they’re hooked up to the city’s
municipal water system – or not.

New Public Works Building Handed Over To City

Residents Could Get Charged Even Without Connection

CENTERVILLE - City council members put their meeting on hold to take a tour of the new public works property.

The new $1.4 million building off 20th Avenue was due for closing the following day, so city councilors recessed their March 12 meeting for a half-hour to inspect their new acquisition.

"It looks gorgeous, even better than I had thought it could look," Mayor Mary Capra said aft er the meeting was reconvened.
