Post-Tornado, Neighbors Continue To Step Up
HUGO - Christine Grygar has 14 kids—but only one of them is hers. And since May 25, her daycare kids haven’t been able to play in the grass outside her Creekview home in Hugo.
“We’ve been playing in the driveway since the tornado,” Grygar [pronounced gree-gar] told The Citizen.

HUGO - At the end of a July 25 internal evaluation of the city’s emergency response to the tornado that tore through town exactly two months prior, Mayor Fran Miron made the observation that “any time you do something well, there’s always room for improvement.”

Hugo Eying Purchase Of 120 Acres For “Featured Park”

HUGO - City officials in Hugo are taking the first steps toward acquiring property that could ultimately serve as the city’s “featured park.”
On August 4 the City Council approved the formation of a committee that will work to obtain an independent appraisal of a 120-acre plot of land located west of Irish Avenue North with an eye towards someday converting the property into a ballfield complex.
“The city has always been interested in the property since I’ve been here,” said City Administrator Mike Ericson, who has worked for the city for eight years.
