Hugo's Contract Deputies To Be Based At City Hall
Sheriff Says Move Is A First For Washington County
HUGO - Hugo may not have its own police department, but, if all goes as planned, the city will soon have its own "town cops."
Within the month, the Washington County Sheriff's Department, with which Hugo contracts for police services, will base deputies at an office within City Hall, allowing the five deputies assigned to the Hugo area to spend more of their time in the community and less time commuting back and forth from Stillwater.
"The move will benefit all parties involved," said Washington County SherifiBill Hutton.

County Adjusts Intersection's Ranking As Severe Accidents Increase
HUGO - In the wake of a recent wave of accidents, two of which resulted in fatalities, the junction of Highway 61 and County Road 4 (170th Street) now tops Washington County's list of intersections that are most in need of county funding for safety improvements.
"The intersection, for better or worse, has moved up unfortunately because of crashes," said Washington County Transportation Planner Mike Rogers at the Hugo City Council meeting on Feb. 4.

Road Construction Complicates Permit Application
CENTERVILLE - This year's Fête des Lacs celebration may go ahead without a parade.
The Centerville City Council heard at its Feb. 13 meeting that the application process for a parade route permit was likely to prove lengthy and complex, due to the CSAH 14 construction project.
As a result, Council Member Tom Lee explained, he was recommending that the event be canceled this year.

CENTERVILLE - The city could get its youngest-ever committee member in the shape of a 15-year-old.
Savannah Lee, the daughter of Council Member Tom Lee, has applied for one of the vacant seats on the Parks and Recreation Committee.
Her application has sparked debate among city council members, who were split on the subject of such a young candidate.
