Medical Examiner Confirms Murder/Suicide In Hugo

HUGO – The Ramsey County Medical Examiner’s office has completed its preliminary investigation into the deaths of a husband and wife in Hugo.

The preliminary findings conclude that Michael Mitzuk killed his wife, Sarah Mitzuk, and then committed suicide in the early morning hours of Tuesday, Jan. 19.

Warm Hearts for Charity

With a rousing karaoke performance of “YMCA,” local celebrities entertained an appreciative crowd at the Hugo Business Association’s Warm Hearts for Charities event last weekend. audience members chipped in to get them to perform; all karaoke donations went to the Hugo Good Neighbors Food Shelf. The HBA’s debi Johnson reports that about $7,700 was raised for various charities.


Hugo Water Main Break Causes Loss Of Service—and A Mess

HUGO - A water main break that occurred in Hugo eventually resulted in loss of municipal water service to over 500 homes until service was restored late the next day.

The break occurred on Thursday evening, Jan. 14, just west of Highway 61 on 142nd Street N. and water was visible bubbling up from beneath the ground, even in the dark, neighbors reported.

Met Council Approves Hugo’s Comp Plan—With Conditions

Final Version Requires Two Zoning Ordinance Changes

HUGO - Nearly three years after the process of draft ing Hugo’s 2030 Comprehensive Plan began, the Metropolitan Council has formally approved the plan submitted by the city last summer.

However, there’s a catch—that final approval, tendered Dec. 9, 2009, is contingent on the city removing the Open Space Preservation section from its Zoning Ordinance, as current city policy allows for development in the rural part of the city at densities greater than those preferred by the Met Council.
