National Guard Members Welcomed Home

On the Brooklyn Park Armory's broad lawn, within a semicircle of American flags gently waving on a perfect Minnesota morning, groups of family members and friends gathered to welcome their warriors home.
On this day, July 19, local members of the Minnesota National Guard's 1st Brigade Combat Team, 34th Infantry Division - a/k/a The "Red Bulls" - were due to arrive after a 20-month deployment to Iraq. Their unit had served 22 months, 16 months of which were in a combat zone, the longest of any Guard unit in the Iraq war.

Agreement Struck Between Developer, City
According to a timeline prepared by Centerville City Engineer Mark Statz, construction of the road, sewer, and water improvements involved in the first phase of the city's downtown redevelopment project is tentatively slated to be completed just 14 months from now.
If that construction is indeed completed by October of 2008, it will be an impressive accomplishment - the first phase involves both the redevelopment of properties adjacent to Centerville Road and Main Street, and a similar overhaul for some downtown properties east of Progress Road.

The Lino Lakes City Council held public hearings for the West Shadow Lake Drive and Shenandoah Area Improvement Projects at its meeting of July 9. Both projects, identified by the city's Pavement Management and Street Reconstruction Program as being in high need of reconstruction, are proposed to be funded by a combination of special assessments and general tax levies.

With construction on the Oakshore Park improvement project getting off the ground during the past month, a push has begun to improve the area directly southwest of Oakshore Park - the Ethan Avenue neighborhood, which includes homes along Ethan, Everton Avenue, and 122nd Street on the eastern shore of Bald Eagle Lake in Hugo.
