Meet Hugo's 2007 Good Neighbor
Four years after he was named one of KARE-TV's "11 People Who Care," Pete Pedersen received his hometown's honor as this year's outstanding community volunteer.
A resident of Hugo since 1970, Pedersen is no stranger to his community. His extensive involvement in civic service and volunteerism, however, is not always visible to the public eye.
He often works behind the scenes, spending his time with local residents, government leaders, and county prison inmates. His quiet and mature demeanor reflects his ability to communicate with people of different races, locations, and histories, and to lead them toward a more stable future.

Lino Lakes Earns Top "Green" Award
The city of Lino Lakes is over one-third water.
For residents, this can be a challenge. Some homeowners fi nd that living mere feet above the water table on the Anoka Sand Plain carries with it the prospect of damp basements, failing septic systems, and roads that disintegrate in the spring.
For plants and animals, this creates a wellspring of opportunity for growth. Within city limits, lowlands are home to many unusual plants and some threatened animal species. Rare sedges, statethreatened species, and native plant communities of exceptional value call Lino Lakes their home.

'Hidden Spring' Costs See Dramatic Increase
The costs of Hidden Spring Park, now under construction, divided the Centerville City Council one final time on June 13 as, in a narrow 3-2 vote, the council decided to affi rm the Parks & Recreation Committee's recommendation not to remove anything from the construction bid. As a part of that action, the council also awarded a contract in an amount not to exceed $8,000 to Bonestroo, the city's engineering consultant, to complete engineering services related to the project.
The main point of contention during this round of discussion related to the fact that the total park cost has more than doubled since early estimates.
