HUGO - There’s no quick fix for a lake that has an overabundance of phosphorus and other pollutants. But Bald Eagle Lake is on the road to a cure now that Rice Creek Watershed District and other agencies know where the nutrients that contribute to algae growth are coming from, residents who attended a recent meeting hosted by the Rice Creek Watershed District were told.

Centerville Proceeds With Scaled-Back Irrigation Project

CENTERVILLE - A reduction in the price tag seemed to be what Centerville City Council members were looking for as city staff presented a scaled-back irrigation project for Laurie LaMotte Memorial Park at their March 24 meeting.

Council members voted unanimously to authorize city staff to proceed with the renegotiation of grant agreements for the project, which will divert untreated city stormwater into a pond owned by Anoka County and reuse it on the park ballfields.

CENTERVILLE - On the morning of March 16, the manager of Kelly’s Bar & Grill in Centerville found a “bunch of cash” missing when she opened up. Owner Bill Bisek was puzzled: there was no sign of forced entry, and staff had locked up as usual the previous night.

Hugo Municipal Sewer Rates To Increase

HUGO - Following years of increases in the amount the Metropolitan Council charges the city for sewage treatment, on March 15 the Hugo City Council approved a $5 quarterly per-connection increase for residential properties connecting to municipal sewer services and a $2 quarterly per-connection increase for non-residential properties.

The amount the city pays in sewage treatment fees has risen by $334,000 over the past six years, from $207,000 in 2004 to $542,000 this year.

Local Boards Of Appeal To Meet In April

CENTERVILLE / HUGO / LINO LAKES – Local property owners will soon receive their market value notice for taxes payable in 2011 if they have not already done so. Both Anoka and Washington county assessors recently announced that those notices would be mailed before the end of March.

Property owners who believe their market value or classification is incorrect should first call their local assessor: a number of property owner concerns can be resolved in that way, Hugo City Assessor Frank Langer told The Citizen.
