King Boreas Hails From Hugo
Schoeller Reigns Over 2007 Winter Carnival
Hugo has had its share of mayors, princesses and local dignitaries, but it has never had a king before.
That all changed two weeks ago with the crowning of Hugo resident Don Schoeller as Boreas Rex LXXI of the 2007 St. Paul Winter Carnival in a coronation ceremony at Roy Wilkins Auditorium downtown.
"I feel very overwhelmed," Schoeller said about the honor conferred on him. "I have always loved the event, and I love what it stands for."

At its meeting of January 22, the four members of the Lino Lakes City Council in attendance voted unanimously to authorize the purchase of 15 of 16 parcels necessary for the reconstruction of the Lake Drive/I-35W interchange in 2007. Council Member Jeff Stoltz was absent.
Dan Wilson of Wilson Development Services assisted the city in reaching a purchase agreement on each of the parcels. One of the parcels is not yet under contract.
The negotiated cost for acquisition of the 15 parcels is $1,267,274, which includes the purchase of permanent right-of-way and temporary construction easements necessary to build the project.

Two Former Hugo Mayors Among Group
Two former city mayors and 12 other residents have requested the Hugo City Council make a formal request to State Auditor Rebecca Otto for a state audit of the city's books.
Mike McAllister, mayor from 1983-1986 and Walter Stoltzman, mayor from 1991-1994 and 1998-2000, were among 14 Hugo residents who signed their names to the January 20 letter.
Council members were specifically requested to place the matter on an upcoming council agenda, and were informed that a formal petition is presently being circulated within the city.

Proposals Sought for 2008 Comprehensive Plan Update
Centerville will hire a private land-use consultant by mid-April to help guide the city's upcoming comprehensive planning process.
"The Planning Commission has been working on this a lot . but there's only so much they can do without a planner," City Administrator Dallas Larson said January 24 before the City Council unanimously authorized a request for proposals from interested planning consultants.
"So the next step, really, is to bring a planner on board." Larson noted that the city is required to complete its next comprehensive land-use plan by mid-2008, and that he hopes to formally hire a planning consultant "by the middle of March or April."
