Over 100 people turned out for Memorial Day ceremonies conducted in Centerville by the members of american Legion Post 620 of hugo. at the Church of st. Genevieve cemetery, Kary Burggraff and her sons, Brenden and Brock, paid their respects at a veteran’s grave. The burggraff family of Centerville recently welcomed husband and father Major Stephen Burggraff home from a one-year tour in Iraq with the 34th Red Bull Infantry Division Special Troops Battalion.

Rodeo Championship Coming to Hugo Father’s Day Weekend

HUGO - Hugo’s rural character will be on full display on Father’s Day weekend as the city hosts the annual Minnesota State High School Rodeo Finals and State Championship.

The event features 140 high schoolers from throughout the state competing in bareback bronc, pole bending, saddle bronc, barrel racing, team roping, calf roping, steer wrestling, goat tying, breakaway roping, cattle cutting, and bull riding.

Charges Filed In Lino Lakes Cockfighting Ring

LINO LAKES - On Sunday May 23, Lino Lakes Police received an anonymous tip about an alleged cockfi ghting ring at a residence in the 1400 block of Woodland Dr. After paying a visit to the residence and observing what appeared to be several injured chickens, they returned on May 25 with a search warrant.

The residence of Youa Chong Vang, 61, was searched and police uncovered what they suspect was an operation to breed hundreds of chickens to be distributed for illegal fights.

Centerville 2009 Audit Yields Clean Bill Of Health—With One Hiccup

CENTERVILLE - A financial arrangement between the City of Centerville and two temporary employees to compensate for wear and tear on personal vehicles used for city business has been found by the city’s auditor to be out of compliance with state statute.

Beyond that notation, however, the city’s auditor gave the city a clean bill of health on its financial recordkeeping for 2009.

According to the audit management letter prepared by Abdo, Eick & Meyers, LLP, a lump sum of $25 per week was paid to each of two employees hired to provide inspection on the city’s street construction projects.
