Final Payment For Water Projects Made

Jay Brothers, Inc., the contractor for the city's 2005 Surface Water Management Projects, requested final payment in the amount of $4,099.60. The pay request was accompanied by a change order in the deduct amount of $9,014.00, bringing the year's contract amount to $66,792.00, about $12,000 below the Engineer's Estimate. Council authorized the payment at its Oct. 23 meeting.

St. Joseph Permits Approved

As part of its consent agenda, the City Council also approved an exempt permit for St. Joseph Catholic Church to conduct a raffle at its annual Venison Supper, to be held on November 28, 2006. Proceeds from the event go toward scholarships for high school seniors within the church.

An exempt permit was also approved for the church to hold its annual "Turkey Bingo" event, to be held this year on November 19, 2006. The event helps fund Thanksgiving food baskets. The 30-day waiting period for both permits was waived by the city.

Secret Holiday Gift Shop Planned

The City of Lino Lakes Park and Recreation Department is planning this year's Secret Holiday Gift Shop. This is an opportunity for children to shop in a safe and supervised environment, learn how to budget their money, make decisions, and buy presents for their family and friends. Items range in price from 25 cents to $13. All children will be assisted by a local high school student volunteer throughout their entire shopping experience, from gift selection to gift wrap, as accompanying adults are not allowed in the shop. (Because it's a secret shop!) No registration is required. Cash or checks only.

The Secret Shop is planned for Wed., Dec. 13 and Thurs. Dec. 14, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Lino Lakes City Hall, located at 600 Town Center Parkway.
