Signals May Head To November Vote
At its meeting on June 14, the Lino Lakes City Council gave a thumbs up to the next step in getting signals installed at Lake Drive/Main Street and Birch Street/Ware Road. Draft signal justification reports have been forwarded to Anoka County for review.
“We need to get moving in anticipation of an election in October,” Community Development Director Michael Grochala told council.
TKDA was authorized to begin preparing concept layouts and cost estimates for both intersections; how- ever, it is unclear whether the Birch Street signal meets traffi c warrants, a necessary criteria for funding. “Preliminary indications are that [the intersection at] Lake Drive and Main Street will certainly qualify,” Grochala said.
There would be no special assessments involved, but Lino voters would have to give project approval at the polls this fall.
Accessory Structure Zoning Rules Relaxed
Council also approved the first reading of Ordinance No. 08-10 amending Zoning Ordinance regulations for accessory buildings. The change will allow the percentage of lot size to be used in calculating allowable accessory square footage; also, properties over 5 acres would be allowed up to three accessory structures. A complete copy of the ordinance is available at City Hall.
Seized Property Converted To Police Use
Following approval by council, the LLPD will use confi scated burglary pry tools to aid in serving search warrants and in opening doors where injured residents who have summoned aid cannot come to the door. The tools will be restricted to use in police emergencies.
